OUR STORY
Geomare Seafood was set up bij Samantha van Maurik in 2018. Due to her Spanish background, she grew up among the fishing boats. After several years of work experience in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals she decided she wanted to do something else. As a result of many business trips to Italy, Samantha already was familiar with the way of working with sales agents in that country. She decided to approach some contacts from Spain who where currently working in fisheries and found out there was a big demand for expension to Italy. This is how the idea for Geomare Seafood was born.
Geomare Seafood distinguished itself from others during the start-up phase because it was specialized in offering coocked octopus in its own juice. A completely new way of producing in the frozen seafood market. The focus for sales at first was based on generating growth in the Netherlands. From there, more contacts were made towards Southern Europe through fairs and word of mouth. Step by step Geomare Seafood started to grow and generate brand awareness in the frozen seafood market.
Regular visits to one of the biggest seafood fairs brought Geomare Seafood into contact with new potential suppliers and buyers. The portfolio expanded in 2019 by including some Dutch suppliers who were very interested in generating more expension towards Italy, a country where it is difficult to get in between your competitors. Because the customer portfolio in Italy had expanded considerably in the meantime and there was also an increasing demand from the buyers for others productes besides the cooked octopus, this was a perfect addition tot he product portfolio. The goal for Geomare Seafood was to focus on growth on both import and export of frozen fish product.
By now, Geomare Seafood offers a big amount of different frozen fish and has specialised in international sales and strong relationships have been established between suppliers and buyers. We regularly receive request from our buyers for specific products, which means that we are also actively looking for suitable suppliers in order to bring a buyer and supplier togheter.
